So over here in the northeast, we’re supposed to have a pretty interesting week. My “hometown” (I will forever be part New Yorker, part Pittsburgher) of NYC is battening down the hatches, expecting Sandy to be a serious trouble-maker. Here in Pittsburgh, we’re expecting lots of rain and lots of wind. So, of course, everyone is staying in doors, watching lots of Halloween related movies, and COOKING. According to Facebook, all my New York compadres have turned into master chefs over the last few days, stewing, slicing...

So during my morning smoothie I was browsing some health related articles when I stumbled upon this gem. Now, this is a topic near and dear to my heart. Many people who know I’m a health nut and an animal lover assume that I am a vegetarian. While I have pondered going veg several times, it has never worked out for several reasons. Mostly, I love meat. My body loves meat. I forget what my name is if I don’t have it for up a couple...

Hello all! It has been a while! I thought it time to start dipping my foot back in the water of healthy discussion. As most of you know, Ameesh and I welcomed a beautiful baby boy into our lives on May 31st. It has been a wild ride, let me tell you.
So after a couple months of diapers, tears and baby giggles I am ready to re-establish myself as a professional mom, spreading the word on healthy living! I gave a talk on sugar last week at the Branding Brand office that re-energized me and had me craving more. I have to admit though, it has...

This is what I fear for the future of humanity.
A society in which people are walking around, with no concept of how or why they are living. All of our brains have been programmed to believe corporate messages, and it doesn’t occur to us to question an alternative. Nobody wants to explore the universe inside their skin, they just want it to get them from place A to B as fast as possible, while looking aesthetically pleasing to those around them. When a part seems to be on the fritz, we rely on outside human mechanics to fix us, and...

OK, I need to vent. I tried to casually dust off the recent news about Paula Deen’s admission to having Type 2 diabetes, but the more I think about it, the more it REALLY irks me. I mean, it should come as no surprise that she is afflicted, given the food she’s been justifying to Americans for years that it’s OK to make. However, now being faced with a serious – AND REVERSIBLE- disease, she signs an endorsement deal with a pharmaceutical company and vows to not change the way she cooks or eats. SERIOUSLY?!?!
I’m...

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Time to bake cookies, and pies, and potatoes….yum…
The past few months have been a roller coaster in the Grater-Kapoor household. We’ve been busy baking a few things ourselves, but the most important thing is the bun in the oven! Yes, you’re interpreting that correctly. We are expecting our first little organic peanut late next May! We are very excited, and there are MANY changes in store for us in the future!
In addition to finding out this news in early...

So my mom, sister and I have been working as a team to keep each other on a healthy track the past several weeks. Things have been going quite well, I must say. My mom’s diet has improved dramatically, and she’s begun a weekly yoga class, so kudos to you Momma. My sister also started running regularly and completed a 5K for a charity event last weekend. Kudos to you also, Sister!
In addition, my sister and I have started a food log thanks to Google Docs so we can help keep tabs on ourselves and each other. This all...

Hello friends! The past couple weeks have gotten away with me! The weather’s been great and I just want to go outside all day every day! I have wanted to share some experiences with you, though so I’m gonna buckle down and stay indoors to write this down!
I want to try to encourage everyone out there regardless of any preconceived notions you may have…to try yoga. I’ve started to realize that I sound like a broken record at work when it comes to my clients suffering from weakness and stress induced postural...

On a warm night during the start of my last year of college, my roommates and I sat in a plaza watching an outdoor dance festival. At one point, my roommate Anna nudged my arm, and glanced up in a manner indicating for me to do the same. I looked up, and how it must have looked to Jack at the base of the bean stock, I saw the two towers of the World Trade Center climbing seemingly endlessly into the sky. In that moment, a sense of awe eclipsed the talent of the beautiful dancers.
One week later to the day, I woke up to the sound...
