As a health coach, I get LOTS of questions from curious health-conscious people about what they should be eating. ”What’s the best thing to eat for breakfast?”; ”Is juice healthy or not?”; ”Is it bad to eat before bed?”
It is GREAT that people are asking these kinds of questions, because health improvement has to start with a curiosity about healthy food. However, it can actually be quite difficult to give an accurate answer to these basic kinds of questions. There are many factors that...

I just have to say that it’s important to give credit when credit is due. Especially when someone has an uphill battle (due to habits, family, motivation, etc.) to get healthy and maintain it. I’d like to take a moment to acknowledge my sister in law for her awesome winning streak of sticking to her guns about eating habits and losing weight over the past six months (and through the holiday season! double bonus!!).
She looks fabulous, and I was so proud of her response to the question my mother-in-law asked her yesterday….”Are...

(Yes, what a woman actually found in her kids’ McNuggets)
So I’m sure most of you have heard by now the story of the 17 year old girl in the UK who collapsed and was hospitalized earlier this week after spending her life eating nothing but chicken nuggets (mostly from McDonalds, some from her grocer’s freezer aisle). She was found to be so nutrient-deficient...

It seems to me that there are just too many nutrition “laws” out there these days. No wonder people are so confused. There are dozens of top-selling diet plans out there all claiming their method is the cure-all to losing weight and keeping it off. Atkins, Mediterranean-style, vegan, Zone, low-carb/high-protein, super cleanses….it can be exhausting! Then throw in excessive and extremely misleading marketing on top of that…”Whole Grains!” (tons of sugar!), “100 calories!” (tons of chemicals),...

Two days in a row, I’m reaching out! Stumbled across this song today which is a nice, albiet, brief summation of some of the issues with GMO foods, an issue that is very important to me, not only for my own health, but for the implications it has in a host of world issues…
So sing along, and start doing your own research and be inspired to swap out your kitchen for GMO free foods!

Your bowel movements.
Didn’t see that one comin’, did ya?? Seriously folks, this tip is a long time coming. It’s one of the most embarrassing thing for people to talk about, and I’m still not 100% comfortable blogging about it, but it can’t be brushed under the rug any longer. So many things about your health can be gleaned from your regularity. What goes in must come out, so if you’re eating 3 times a day or more, and only “going” once every 3 days…something is amiss. For...

“I just don’t have the energy.” Sound familiar? I’ve been feeling this way myself recently, hence the lack of writing. Everything just feels like a chore, and when it feels like a chore, I just don’t want to do it. I’ve been lacking inspiration recently, mostly because I’ve been getting so downtrodden over the state of the world – debt crisis, greedy politicians, the FDA’s crack down on poor little old walnuts, Norway, and the usual rape and pillage that’s been plaguing us for...

So my husband and I went to a preview of a new documentary this past Friday night called “Farmageddon” (watch the trailer!), which emphasizes the struggles that continue to weigh down small family farms, organic farmers, even CSA’s across the country. Now it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that an upswing in the movement to support local family farms means a drop in the bottom line of Kraft and Perdue, but what is shocking is just how far the government is willing...

Hello friends! The past couple weeks have gotten away with me! The weather’s been great and I just want to go outside all day every day! I have wanted to share some experiences with you, though so I’m gonna buckle down and stay indoors to write this down!
I want to try to encourage everyone out there regardless of any preconceived notions you may have…to try yoga. I’ve started to realize that I sound like a broken record at work when it comes to my clients suffering from weakness and stress induced postural...

I was reading an old Natural Health magazine at work yesterday and wouldn’t you know…I stumbled upon this great nugget of information to help drive home the point about the importance of “de-chemical-izing” your home and body products.
There is a book called “Slow Death By Rubber Duck; The Secret Danger of Everyday Things” by authors Rick Smith and Bruce Lourie. I can’t wait to get my hands on it, even though it will probably freak me out. Here’s the magazine’s original write up:
“By...
