It’s a new week. A new start. A new opportunity to pick yourself up and try again (except for our poor Steelers who have to wait til next season
)
How did your weekend go? Did you over-indulge? Drink too much, snack too much? I did alright this weekend, even with football festivities going on in our house yesterday. I made an organic turkey chili, fresh guacamole and served carrots and celery with hummus. Ameesh made...

I am really trying to live up to my resolution to blog more! And make good on my word to start moving more, which thankfully, I have done. Little by little, but something nonetheless…
I’ve put in a few rounds of push-ups over the last few days, took a streaming “CardioSalsa” class on Netflix yesterday, and did some weight exercises and a couple of ballet combos using my upstairs banister as a barre this morning. Not to mention, made myself go up and down the stairs multiple times! In addition, I have been stretching...

Hello everyone! Long time no see. With the dawning of a new era in my life, I figured I should get back on track with the blog. The past few months have been a bit busy to say the least. The end of 2011 saw major life changes in the Grater/Kapoor household and it’s been quite a ride so far!
To recap: In early September we found out we’re having our first baby! Hooray! Then via a happenstance conversation at a wedding in Pittsburgh a month later, Ameesh landed a job with a pretty cool company back in my hometown. We quickly...

Man, I’ve caught it. As soon as I woke up this morning I felt compelled to bake muffins. Armed with my go-to pumpkin muffin recipe, I varied the ingredients slightly to include a combination of millet, buckwheat, garbanzo, tapioca and almond flours – chock full o’ fiber and protein! I have to pat myself on the back and say they turned out delicioso.
And this baking bug must be hereditary, because when I had my usual Sunday phone chat with Momma Grater and mentioned what I was doing, she told me she planned on baking pumpkin...

OK, it’s time to rally. I have been too lazy for too long! I’ve gotta step up my game, hit the streets with my running shoes and iPod and break a sweat. Yesterday I took a yoga class that was deceptively challenging. It started off slow, but by halfway through it I realized how challenging it actually is to hold a position for just long enough to make you beg for the next part of the sequence. It may seem like you’re hardly moving, but then all of a sudden your whole body is shaking, and you feel a heat rising up,...

Hello friends! While I might not be a chef, nor even a fabulous home cook, I know my way around a kitchen pretty well. I can make simple, tasty meals off the top of my head, more complex ones with the help of recipes (even though I never follow them completely), and I have a good sense of complementary flavors and seasonings. So, I had the opportunity this weekend to cook with an old friend who at 30 years old is finally discovering the world of cooking for herself, and it reminded me that what may be second nature to me is definitely not...

Get lots of duct tape?
Sorry guys. I don’t know a thing about earthquake preparedness. However, I do know that if the Mayans were right, then I need to have a few more weekends like this past one before our time’s up! The hubster and I took a trip to Boston to visit some friends and had such a great weekend. Sometimes I forget how good it feels to re-connect with an old friend and spend time with people who are just “feel good” folks. It’s good to break the habit of work – dinner – TV...

It’s early on Sunday morning here in New York City. Usually, waking to the sound of a steady rain, and a grey cloud-darkened bedroom easily lulls me back to my bizarre dream world, but I felt the need to actually get up this morning. I never really liked sleeping away the morning anyway. There’s something about being up while the city is still quiet that I find deeply satisfying. The constant buzz of activity and life seems to only slow down between the hours of 7 and 9 am on Sunday mornings and the respite makes you want...

I seriously cannot take another day of this New York City rain. Every night I go to bed saying, I’m going to the gym in the morning! Every morning I wake up to the sound of rain fall, or like this morning…outright thunder…which makes me hit the snooze button for another hour. It’s really starting to get me down as I yearn for sunshine and happy people on the streets. I’m also feeling stuck in a rut because my life is a little unsettled right now. Many of you personal friends know that my husband and I are...

I was reading an old Natural Health magazine at work yesterday and wouldn’t you know…I stumbled upon this great nugget of information to help drive home the point about the importance of “de-chemical-izing” your home and body products.
There is a book called “Slow Death By Rubber Duck; The Secret Danger of Everyday Things” by authors Rick Smith and Bruce Lourie. I can’t wait to get my hands on it, even though it will probably freak me out. Here’s the magazine’s original write up:
“By...
