If I take something that is whole and then break it into a million pieces and mix those pieces with some other things so that they take on a completely different form than the original, can you still call it “whole”?

This is the problem with “whole” grain marketing.  When talking about the benefits of whole grains, your body benefits from eating them in their whole unaltered state.  The layers of nutrients are cracked by your digestive system in a systematic and timely fashion releasing energy for some time to...

My dear friend Lauren has been asking me to write a blog about the dangers and importance of avoiding genetically modified food.  GMO’s (genetically modified organisms) are becoming a dominant portion of our food chain, and government is quick to get behind them claiming they can help stop world hunger…but is that really true?  I could sit here and write you a novel about how far off base that thinking is, but I think I would rather inspire you in a different way today.

If you have time this afternoon, tonight, or some time...

Hi friends.  I’ve been feeling a little “out of whack” recently and can’t quite put my finger on it.  I’ve been eating well for the most part, but I think stress in some areas of life has been getting me down.  Thanks to a dear friend of mine who introduced me to the website, I’ve found solace in yogatoday.com.  It’s a website that streams really great yoga classes that cover everything you can think of to strengthen mind, body and soul.  It always amazes me how different I feel after doing a yoga...

Hello readers and happy Monday!  Hopefully this week will better than last week for me.  I’ve chosen a very important “Tip” for this week as it is something I hear people talking about regularly who are trying to be healthy.  Eating fish.

We all know that fish can be a healthy part of the diet, but it can also wreak havoc on health.  Unfortunately, our oceans are so incredibly polluted it is difficult to find a fish out there without carcinogenic contaminants in their tissue.  Overfishing is a huge problem, and what...

    Hi friends,

I’m sorry I did not post this tip on Monday, but this past Saturday my grandmother passed away.  I have been in Pittsburgh this week spending time with family, and reminiscing old times.  She was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s four years ago, and seeing her mental decline over the last couple of years I naively thought would cushion the blow of her passing.

It’s amazing how a death in the family renews a commitment to love and family, though.  At the wake on Tuesday there were people that came that...

Welcome to my second Tip of the Week!

This tip is about an extremely important vitamin that a deficiency in is being implicated left and right from cancers to heart disease, strokes, even allergies.

It’s Vitamin D.  The sunshine vitamin.

Vitamin D is synthesized when the sun hits our uncovered, un-sunscreened skin.  All it takes is about 15 minutes of exposure a day to get what you need, but most people, even people in warm weather climates don’t always get this.  It is essential to supplement with this immune...
