Her blog:The Martha Blog has pretty much everything you can think of, but hopefully my faithful readers will continue to turn to me for advice on being happy and healthy!

So during a little family weekend I just had in Maryland, conversation at the dinner table segued into the comment from my dad, “how did we get so lucky?” He was of course, referring to the fact that he and my mother wound up with two pretty awesome daughters. We pondered this for a moment, telling stories of friends we’ve known who had awful times getting along with their parents, or the stories you hear about kids being train wrecks from a young age, getting into drugs, sex, failing grades and turning their parents hair...

Yes, I DO eat the whole egg, my friend who knows who she is. First let’s talk basics… we all know the yolk is where the fat is. And fat makes us happy. It makes us happy because it makes us feel satisfied with a meal and we may not even realize it. Without it…we get hungrier sooner and we crave things like sugar to fill the void. Now I understand that people are concerned with their fat and cholesterol intake these days, but many studies have shown no increase in cholesterol or triglycerides with an egg-a-day routine. ...

This is a great fall back when you know you have to have dessert even if it means a midnight run to the deli for a sleeve of Chips Ahoy. It’s also fun to modify and mix and match ingredients to serve as a method of satisfying your sweet tooth without sabotaging your healthy ways, and sneaking in some vitamins while you’re at it.
The base? A banana. Ripe bananas are plenty sweet to not need sweetening on top of them. While yes, they’re high in sugar, starchy, and maybe a little higher glycemic than I’d prefer…you’re...

We’ve all been there: Open the fridge, stare, close the fridge. Walk over to a pantry: open, stare, close. Pretend like something spontaneously appeared in the fridge while you weren’t looking…and repeat the process. Before calling it a night and hitting the peanut butter jar with a spoon make sure you’re prepared with some staples in the back of your freezer for that rainy day. Read more »
